No Precedent? No Problem

No Precedent? No Problem

Mountain successfully completed the removal of a 232 foot (71 meter) long wind turbine blade using our custom Single Blade Installation (SBI) tool — a global first for this type of turbine. The project took place on a wind turbine platform at a height of 352 feet (107.5 meters), making it one of the most technically challenging removals Mountain has completed to date.

The project presented significant challenges. The turbine had been damaged by fire, leaving no working systems to rely on. In addition, the blades were not in the standard position for removal, which required our engineering team to approach the problem from a completely different angle. They developed detailed and innovative plans that made the lift possible, allowing the crew to safely remove the blades using only cordless and pneumatic tools. This was far from an ordinary lift and demanded precision, creativity, and adaptability at every step.

In total, more than 4,000 man hours were completed on this project with zero safety incidents — a major accomplishment in the construction industry and a testament to Mountain’s culture of safety and excellence.

This achievement was made possible by the many Mountain team members who rallied around a difficult and complex project. From engineering and planning to execution in the field, every group played a vital role in ensuring the work was completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
