After nearly a year of work, Mountain's rebuilt M1070 project is officially back in service — transformed into a fully refurbished, multi-purpose heavy haul unit ready for the demands of the industry.
The project centered around rebuilding and redesigning the M1070 into a more versatile asset capable of supporting multiple operations across the company. What began as a major refurbishment evolved into a complete overhaul, with teams rebuilding critical systems throughout the truck to extend its service life and improve reliability.
Working closely together, the truck shop and crane shop crews completely refurbished the unit from the ground up. The rebuild included converting the truck into a single-cab configuration and designing a custom deck system capable of hauling crane counterweights while still maintaining compatibility with M1000 trailers for transporting wind components and pulling SPMT trailers.
In addition to the structural modifications, crews replaced the cab, rebuilt the axles, installed new hoses and air lines throughout the truck, and refreshed the engine, transmission, and transfer case. Every major system received attention to ensure the truck would be ready for years of continued service.
The result is a highly adaptable heavy haul truck that can support a wide variety of specialized transportation needs while extending the life and value of existing equipment.
