Mountain recently completed a challenging power pole replacement project at the mouth of Parley’s Canyon in Utah, where steep terrain, limited access, and demanding lift requirements called for careful planning and precision.
The project required a Liebherr LTM 1200, configured with its full boom, swing-away jib, and stinger to achieve the height and reach needed to set the new power poles. With a tip height of 250 feet at a 90-foot radius, the crane provided the impressive reach needed to get the job done.
Getting the crane into position was a challenge of its own. Access to the crane pad required navigating a steep 25% grade, while the extremely limited setup area left little room for crane assembly and positioning.
Adding another layer of complexity, helicopters were used to transport the assembly crew and tools to the pole locations. The combination of crane operations and helicopter support required careful coordination to keep the project moving safely and efficiently.
Despite the difficult terrain, restricted workspace, and complex logistics, Mountain's team successfully completed the pole replacements safely and on schedule.
“From navigating a 25% grade to setting poles with a 250-foot tip height, this project presented challenges at every stage. Our team did a great job planning the lift, coordinating with the helicopter crews, and making sure everything was executed safely. It's the kind of job that really showcases the experience and teamwork behind what we do at Mountain” said Ryan Oliverson, President of Sales.
The project is another example of Mountain's ability to deliver reliable lifting solutions in challenging environments, proving that even when space is limited, our capabilities aren't.
