Granite is nearing completion of a major asphalt plant relocation, with the facility now approximately 95% reassembled at its new site in Magna, Utah.
Originally constructed at the Cottonwood site between 1994 and 1995, the plant includes six asphalt silos, each weighing 70,000 pounds. Dismantling operations began on December 1 and required extensive coordination, detailed planning, heavy equipment, and highly skilled crews to execute safely and efficiently.
The relocation effort involved five all-terrain cranes, a Liebherr LR 1300 crawler crane, and three Goldhofer trailers for transportation. An 800-ton was used to pick the silos, while a 900-ton tailed them during dismantling. A 400-ton and the LR 1300 handled setting the silos back into place at the new site.
At peak activity, five to six cranes were operating simultaneously across both locations. The operation was supported by a dedicated team of crane operators, riggers, signalmen, ironworkers, forklift operators, spotters, and truck drivers—each playing a critical role in the successful relocation of this high-capacity facility.
